Landbot alternatives: when to draw flows and when to let AI answer
Yevhen Kurapov, co-founder · Updated Oct 20, 2026
Landbot is a visual flow builder with AI chats on top: Starter is $45 a month for 100 AI chats, and WhatsApp on your own number needs Professional WA at $220 a month. For flows, look at ManyChat, Typebot or Botpress. If you'd rather not draw flows, ChatPal answers from your website and files, with WhatsApp on its free plan.
We make ChatPal, one of the tools below, and list its limits on the same terms as everyone else's.
Landbot is a no-code builder where you draw the conversation: buttons, questions, branches and a handoff to your team. Since its AI Agent block arrived, a flow can also hand the visitor to an AI that answers from your knowledge, then return to the flow. The alternatives fall into two camps: other flow builders, and AI chatbots where you don't draw anything. Which one fits depends on what your customers ask. We make ChatPal, one of the six, and it sits in the second camp.
What Landbot costs, in plain numbers
Landbot shows dollars outside the EU and euros to EU billing addresses. In dollars, billed monthly:
- Free: 100 chats a month, web only, no AI chats, 1 seat. You can try WhatsApp with Landbot's test number.
- Starter, $45 ($36 billed yearly): 500 chats, 100 AI chats, 2 seats, web and Messenger.
- Professional, $110 ($88 billed yearly): 2,500 chats, 300 AI chats, 3 seats, no Landbot branding, HubSpot, Salesforce and webhooks. WhatsApp is an add-on, $100 a month per number.
- Professional WA, $220: Professional with one WhatsApp number and 500 AI chats included.
Extra chats are $0.05 each and extra AI chats $0.10. Landbot counts an AI chat whenever an AI agent handles a conversation fully or partly, and bills it separately from regular chats. It alerts you at 80% and 90% of your chats. The 14-day trial needs no card and drops you to Free when it ends.
Why people look for an alternative
The AI part is metered separately. A bot that sends most visitors to the AI block will use Starter's 100 AI chats quickly. At 500 AI chats a month on Starter you pay $45 plus 400 × $0.10, so $85.
WhatsApp starts at the upper tiers. Your own WhatsApp number needs Professional plus the add-on, or Professional WA at $220 a month. For a small business that mostly talks on WhatsApp, that is the price of entry.
Flows take upkeep. Every new question a customer asks is either a branch you add or something you hand to the AI block. If most of your traffic is open questions, you end up maintaining a flow whose main job is to route to the AI.
When Landbot is still the right choice
Stay if the shape of the conversation matters more than open answers: lead qualification with scoring, a booking form with branches, a quiz that recommends a plan. Landbot is strong there, and its AI block lets you use AI only where a fixed path breaks down. Its hybrid approach also suits regulated or sensitive flows where you want buttons, not free text, on the critical steps. Landbot is an EU-based platform, says it doesn't use your chats to train models, and offers a DPA on request.
How we chose
We picked tools people weigh against Landbot: three that build flows (ManyChat, Typebot, Botpress), one live chat with flows and AI added (Tidio), and one AI-first assistant (ChatPal). On October 20, 2026 we read each pricing page and the documentation on AI and WhatsApp. We make ChatPal; we didn't test the others hands-on. The tools are grouped by approach, not ranked.

- EU-based platform; your chats aren't used to train models
Keep in mind
- AI chats are capped per plan (100 on Starter, 300 on Professional) and each extra one is $0.10

- Live chat, Lyro and Flows are separate packages with their own limits

Flows or AI: how to decide
Write down the last 30 questions customers sent you, word for word. Then sort them.
- Most follow a script (book a demo, get a quote, pick a size, leave contact details): a flow builder fits. Landbot, Typebot and Botpress keep you in control of every step, and ManyChat does the same for Instagram and TikTok.
- Most are open questions (do you deliver to Leeds, is this in stock, what's the difference between these two, are you open on Sunday): an AI chatbot fits. You give it your website and documents, and it writes each answer from them.
- A mix: Landbot's AI block and Botpress handle both in one bot. So does an AI assistant with a few rules in its instructions, such as "ask for the order number before anything else".
In ChatPal there is no canvas. You add your website on Knowledge, write instructions in plain language on Configuration, and the assistant takes it from there. Scripted moments are handled by features, not flows: lead capture asks for the contact details you choose at a good moment in the chat, a booking integration offers real free times as tappable options, and human handoff passes the chat to your team when the customer asks for a person or a category you set calls for it.
WhatsApp: what each tool charges to connect your number
Meta's own charge is the same whichever tool you use: service replies are free up to 1,000 a month per number, then Meta's rate for the customer's country. What differs is each tool's price for the channel, on October 20, 2026:
| Tool | Cheapest plan with WhatsApp and AI | Monthly price |
|---|---|---|
| Landbot | Professional plus the WhatsApp add-on, or Professional WA | $210 or $220 |
| ChatPal | Free (100 replies), or Starter for 500 | $0 or $20 |
| ManyChat | Pro, the first plan with AI | $39 |
| Typebot | Pro | $89, plus your OpenAI bill for AI |
| Botpress | Free (100 conversations), then Plus billed yearly | $0, or $150 |
| Tidio | Free plan includes WhatsApp; AI through Lyro | From $0, Lyro from $32.50 |
ChatPal also lets you keep the WhatsApp Business app: your team keeps replying from the phone, and the assistant answers what they don't pick up. A reply from the phone pauses the assistant on that chat until a quiet period you choose has passed.

What the same month costs
Take a small business with 500 conversations a month, all needing an answer, half on the website and half on WhatsApp. For tools that count replies, we assumed three AI replies per conversation, so 1,500 replies; that's our assumption, so count a week of your own chats.
- Landbot: Professional WA covers 2,500 chats and 500 AI chats: $220 a month billed monthly.
- ChatPal: 1,500 replies fit the $50 plan. The 750 WhatsApp replies stay inside Meta's free 1,000.
- Botpress: Plus covers 250 conversations; the other 250 come in three packs of 100 at $65, so about $345 a month on yearly billing, plus any AI usage past the included $25.
- Typebot: Pro at $89 covers the chats and WhatsApp; the AI answers bill your OpenAI account separately.
- ManyChat and Tidio price differently: ManyChat by active contacts (500 fit Pro's 2,500, at $39 a month), but it has no website widget; Tidio's Lyro is sold in steps of AI conversations priced on its pricing page.
Our arithmetic, on each vendor's prices listed on October 20, 2026.
Landbot or ChatPal
Choose Landbot if:
- you want to design each step of the conversation, with A/B tests;
- you qualify leads with scoring or branching forms;
- you need HubSpot, Salesforce or Pipedrive integrations.
Choose ChatPal if:
- customers ask open questions and you don't want to maintain a flow;
- WhatsApp, Instagram or Telegram matters from day one, without an upgrade;
- you want bookings and lead capture handled by the assistant, not drawn as flows.
Moving from Landbot
- Export your answers, not your flows. Copy the text from your flows' answer blocks and your AI Agent's knowledge sources into one document. That becomes your knowledge.
- Add your website. In ChatPal, open Knowledge, go to Website & links, add your homepage and leave Single page only unticked. Upload the document on the Files tab.
- Turn your branches into instructions. A branch like "if they ask for pricing, ask company size first" becomes one line in Configuration. Turn on lead capture on Handoff & leads if your flows collected contact details.
- Test in the Playground with your 30 real questions, then connect WhatsApp, Instagram or the website chat from Integrations.
