ManyChat alternatives: what to use instead, and when to stay

Yevhen Kurapov, co-founder · Updated Oct 5, 2026

If most of your DMs are questions about products, delivery and sizes, an AI tool that answers from your own website, such as ChatPal or Tidio, saves you building a flow for each one. If a team sells over WhatsApp, look at respond.io, WATI or SleekFlow. If your sales come from comment campaigns and broadcasts, stay with ManyChat.

We make ChatPal, one of the tools below, and list its limits on the same terms as everyone else's.

ManyChat is built for flows. You decide what happens when someone comments on a post, taps a button or types a keyword, and the flow runs the same way every time. That works well for campaigns. It works less well when most of what arrives is a question: do you ship to Ireland, which size should I take, how long does delivery take. Every answer is another branch to build and keep current.

This page is for small businesses weighing that trade-off.

Why people look past ManyChat

Three things came up when we compared the plans.

The price follows how many people you reach. ManyChat charges by active contacts: each person who interacts with your account in a month. The free plan covers 25. Pro costs $39 a month (billed monthly) for 2,500, and on monthly billing every contact above that adds $0.05. A comment campaign that reaches more people raises the bill even if the number of real questions stays the same.

WhatsApp and AI start on Pro. The free and Essential plans cannot connect WhatsApp and have no AI. ManyChat's own pages disagree on the AI price: the AI product page still describes a $29 add-on to Pro, while the pricing page includes AI in Pro.

The AI knowledge base is Instagram only. ManyChat's help center says it works only on Instagram, is in beta, and that adding a homepage does not include its subpages. If you want AI answers on WhatsApp from your website, ManyChat does not offer that yet.

When ManyChat is still the right choice

Stay if your sales come from campaigns: comment triggers, giveaways, lead magnets, broadcasts, and flows that move people from TikTok to WhatsApp to email. ManyChat covers seven channels, including TikTok, which neither ChatPal nor Tidio covers. If someone on your team builds flows well and those flows bring in the sales, switching will cost you more than it saves.

The tools below help most when your DMs are mostly questions rather than replies to a campaign.

What it costs at your volume

The tools meter different things, so here is one shop compared on the same month: 400 customers write in, and each conversation takes about three replies.

  • ManyChat: 400 people are 400 active contacts. Pro at $39 a month covers up to 2,500 and includes WhatsApp and AI. Essential ($17) would cover 250 contacts but has neither.
  • ChatPal: at three replies per conversation that is about 1,200 replies, which fits the $50 plan (1,500). At five replies per conversation it is 2,000, and you need the $120 plan (4,000). Either way ChatPal costs more than ManyChat Pro at this volume; what you save is the time spent building and updating flows.
  • Tidio: Starter covers 100 conversations with your team; AI conversations are bought separately, from $32.50 a month for 50 (billed yearly). At 400 AI conversations you would be on a much larger Lyro tier.
  • respond.io, WATI, SleekFlow: priced for teams, from $69 to $159 a month before AI add-ons and Meta's WhatsApp fees.

Prices were checked on 27 September 2026. ManyChat sets prices by billing country, so yours may differ.

On WhatsApp, Meta charges for template messages, the ones a business sends first, such as broadcasts, whichever tool sends them. Replies inside a customer's conversation are free on Meta's own pricing page, but ManyChat and Whaticket both say Meta will start charging for them on 1 October 2026 (above 1,000 a month, according to ManyChat). If that happens, it applies to WhatsApp replies in every tool here, ChatPal included.

How we chose

We looked for tools a small business can set up without a developer, that answer on Instagram or WhatsApp, and that publish prices. For each we read the pricing page and help center on 27 September 2026 and noted what is metered, which channels are included, and how answers are made: flows you build, AI from your own content, or both. We did not test the other tools hands-on.

The tools are grouped by the job you need done, not ranked.

Moving off ManyChat

A switch goes better as a gradual handover than a one-day cutover.

  1. List what your flows actually do. Split them into campaigns (broadcasts, comment triggers, lead magnets) and answers (shipping, sizes, returns, opening hours). Campaigns need a flow tool. Answers can come from a knowledge base.
  2. Turn answers into content. An AI tool answers from your FAQ, delivery and returns pages, size guide and product pages. If an answer only exists inside a flow today, write it down as a page or a document first.
  3. Check channels before prices. WATI does not list Telegram, Tidio offers it only on its top plans, and ChatPal does not do TikTok. A cheaper plan that misses your main channel is not cheaper.
  4. Run both for a couple of weeks, on different channels. Put the new tool on a channel ManyChat is not handling, read the conversations every evening, and only then move the next channel.

If Instagram or WhatsApp is your main channel, see ChatPal for Instagram, ChatPal for WhatsApp or the plans.

For a wider comparison, see AI chatbots for WhatsApp, Instagram and Telegram.

Questions people ask

ChatPal's free plan includes 100 AI replies a month on all its channels. Tidio's free plan covers 50 conversations with your team, plus 50 AI conversations once. ManyChat's own free plan covers 25 people a month. The three plans count different things, so compare them at your own volume.

Yes, and it is a sensible way to test. Keep ManyChat on the channel where your campaigns run and put the new tool on another one, such as WhatsApp or your website chat, so two bots never answer the same conversation.

Plan to rebuild rather than import. We did not find a ManyChat flow importer in the documentation of any tool on this page.

Each person who interacts with your account in a month counts as one active contact, however many messages they send. Plans are sized by active contacts; contacts above your plan are billed each month, and you can set a limit to cap them.

Each reply the assistant writes counts as one message. Your customers' messages are not counted.
