Chatfuel alternatives for Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp
Yevhen Kurapov, co-founder · Updated Oct 20, 2026
Chatfuel is $20 a month ($18 billed yearly) with $20 of AI credits, has no free plan, and pauses the bot at its AI fair-use limit. Alternatives: ChatPal answers from your content, free for 100 replies a month; ManyChat Pro, with AI, costs $39; Meta Business Agent is free to start; SendPulse is cheap with your own AI key.
We make ChatPal, one of the tools below, and list its limits on the same terms as everyone else's.
Chatfuel is a chatbot builder for Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, now sold as a single business plan at $20 a month with AI credits included. It suits service businesses that run lead funnels, comment replies and WhatsApp campaigns. People look for an alternative when they want a free plan, a predictable AI allowance, Telegram, or an assistant that answers from their own information without flows. We checked every price below on 20 October 2026.
What Chatfuel is today
Chatfuel's pricing page lists two plans:
- Business: $18 a month billed yearly ($216 a year), or $20 billed monthly, with $20 of AI credits a month. It includes comment replies on posts and Reels, bulk WhatsApp campaigns, booking in WhatsApp, lead scoring, selling in the chat, a team inbox and a CRM.
- Agency S: $90 a month billed yearly, with $100 of AI credits a month and three client companies.
Contacts and messages are unlimited. What's limited is AI processing, under a fair-use allowance per billing period. Keyword replies, button flows and broadcasts don't count against it. The channels are Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, TikTok and a website chat.
Why people look for an alternative
There's no free plan. Chatfuel starts with a free trial of 7 days, according to its website channel page. If you want to run a small page for free for a few months, it isn't the tool.
The AI allowance isn't a number you can plan with. Chatfuel publishes $20 of AI credits a month but no reply count, and says each reply's cost depends on your knowledge base, your instructions and the length of the conversation. Two businesses on the same plan can use very different amounts. At the limit the bot stops replying until the period resets, unless you renew early or connect your own OpenAI key. Chatfuel says the plan fits 98% of businesses, so most never hit it, but you can't check in advance which group you're in.
No Telegram. Chatfuel's channel list doesn't include it. If some of your customers prefer Telegram, that's a gap.
Meta now has its own agent. Meta Business Agent answers on WhatsApp and Messenger inside Meta's apps, and Meta says getting started is free. For some small pages that removes the need for a third-party bot altogether. We cover it below.
When to stay on Chatfuel
Stay if:
- your sales come from comment replies, ad responses and WhatsApp campaigns, which ChatPal doesn't send;
- you want one flat price however many contacts write to you;
- you run bots for clients and the Agency plan fits how you bill them;
- TikTok matters to you as a channel.
How we chose
We read each tool's pricing page and help articles on 20 October 2026, and Meta's own announcements and WhatsApp pricing page for Meta Business Agent. We picked the tools a Chatfuel user would realistically compare: a larger flow builder (ManyChat), a low-cost one (SendPulse), Meta's own agent, and ChatPal, which answers from your content. We make ChatPal, so weigh what we say about it accordingly; we didn't test the other tools hands-on. The list is grouped by approach, not ranked.

What each tool charges for
The five tools meter different things, so the cheapest one depends on what your month looks like.
| Tool | You pay for | Cheapest plan with AI | What raises the bill |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chatfuel | A flat plan | $20 a month ($18 billed yearly) | Nothing, until the AI fair-use limit pauses the bot |
| ChatPal | AI replies | Free for 100; $20 for 500 | More replies: $50 for 1,500, $120 for 4,000 |
| ManyChat | Active contacts | Pro, $39 a month for 2,500 contacts | More contacts: Business is $99 for 7,500 |
| Meta Business Agent | Not yet fixed | Free to start | Paid Meta One plans; per-token charges on the WhatsApp API |
| SendPulse | Subscribers | Pro from €8.80 a month billed yearly, plus your AI provider's bill | More subscribers |
Prices in US dollars except SendPulse, whose page showed euros when we checked from Europe; they were checked on 20 October 2026. On every tool, WhatsApp replies are also subject to Meta's fees: each business number gets 1,000 free service messages a month, then Meta charges its rate for the customer's country.
A rough guide from the table: a page with many contacts who each write once is cheaper on Chatfuel or ChatPal than on ManyChat. A page with few contacts who write long conversations uses up ChatPal's replies faster, and ManyChat's contact pricing can work out lower for it. If you hit Chatfuel's fair-use limit, its own advice is to trim your knowledge base and instructions.
Meta Business Agent: the free option inside Meta's apps
Meta's agent is the newest name on this list. Here is what Meta's own pages say, as of 20 October 2026:
- Where it answers: WhatsApp and Messenger, with Instagram being added. Over a million businesses use it there.
- What it can do: answer questions about your business in your customers' language, recommend products from your catalog, and connect to systems such as Shopify and Zendesk through Meta's agent platform. You decide when someone from your team steps in.
- What it costs: getting started is free, and paid subscriptions are coming. Meta One for business plans start at $14.99 a month and add more Business Agent replies on WhatsApp. On the WhatsApp API, Meta charges agent messages $2.00 per million tokens, about 4 to 5 cents each by its own estimate, with no free tier.
What to weigh: Meta's announcement covers its own apps only, its paid tiers are still being rolled out, and Meta says plans and availability vary by region and account. If all your customers write on WhatsApp and Messenger and your questions are simple, try it first. If you also need your website, Telegram or a booking calendar in the same assistant, look at the others.
Chatfuel or ChatPal
Choose Chatfuel if your page lives on comment-to-DM funnels, ad responses and WhatsApp broadcasts. ChatPal doesn't send any of those.
Choose ChatPal if:
- most of your messages are questions: prices, opening hours, stock, delivery, “do you have time on Friday”;
- you want the answers to come from your website, documents or Shopify catalog, with no flows to build or update;
- your customers also write on Telegram or your website, and you want one assistant on all of them;
- you want to know your AI allowance in replies before the month starts.
Here is a booking on Messenger, in an example conversation for a fictional nail studio that books through Google Calendar:
Customer: Hi, do you have anything for a gel manicure on Friday afternoon?
Assistant: On Friday, 23 October, I have these times for a gel manicure: 1:00 pm, 2:30 pm or 4:00 pm. Which one suits you?
[Card: buttons for 1:00 pm, 2:30 pm and 4:00 pm]
Customer: 2:30 pm
Assistant: Friday, 23 October at 2:30 pm. What name and phone number should I book it under?
Customer: Maria, +1 415 555 0142
Assistant: Maria, you're booked: gel manicure, Friday 23 October, 2:30 to 3:30 pm.
On Messenger the assistant can only reply within 24 hours of the customer's last message, the same rule Meta applies to every business. It sends no reminders there and doesn't answer comments on your posts; on WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram and the website it does send reminders.
Moving from Chatfuel to ChatPal
- Write down what Chatfuel does for you. List your flows and sort them into two piles: answers to questions, which the assistant will take over, and campaigns or comment replies, which it won't.
- Give ChatPal the answers. Open Configuration, upload your price list or FAQ as a file, or add your website as a link. Put the rules (what not to promise, when to hand over) in the instructions.
- Test in the Playground with ten real questions from last month. Test replies count toward your monthly messages.
- Turn off Chatfuel's automations on the Page so customers don't get two answers.
- Connect Messenger. Open Integrations, choose Messenger and click Connect Facebook Page. Then connect Instagram and WhatsApp from their own tiles; WhatsApp can stay in the WhatsApp Business app on your phone.
- Switch on handoff. In Configuration, open Handoff & leads and switch on Hand off to a human when needed. When your team replies from Meta Business Suite, the assistant steps back from that chat on its own.
