No-code AI chatbot builders: flows you draw or AI that answers from your content
Yevhen Kurapov, co-founder · Updated Oct 13, 2026
Flow builders (Landbot, ManyChat) have you draw each conversation; they suit lead forms and campaigns. AI-first builders (ChatPal, Chatbase, Tidio's Lyro) answer from your website and documents; they suit customer questions. Botpress and Voiceflow do both but are easier with a developer. ChatPal is free for 100 replies a month, then $20 a month for 500.
We make ChatPal, one of the tools below, and list its limits on the same terms as everyone else's.
Picking the right kind of builder matters more than any feature list. A flow builder has you draw the conversation as boxes and arrows, and the bot does exactly what you drew: right for a quote form, no help with "is the blue one in a medium?". An AI-first builder writes each answer from your content and a few instructions: it handles that question, but it won't run a campaign sequence for you. Many tools now blend the two, so the useful question is which kind your customers' messages need first.
Flows or AI: which one you need
Think about what your customers send you.
- Fixed sequences: "Get a quote", a lead form, a quiz, a sign-up for an event, a reply to everyone who comments "PRICE" on a post. You know every step in advance, and a flow does it the same way every time. Landbot and ManyChat are built for this.
- Open questions: "Do you deliver to Austin?", "Is the blue one in a medium?", "Can I cancel on the day?" There are hundreds of these, phrased a hundred ways. Drawing a flow for each is endless. An AI-first builder answers them from your website, price list and policies. ChatPal, Chatbase and Tidio's Lyro work this way.
- Both, with custom logic: Botpress and Voiceflow let you mix AI with fixed workflows and add code. They are powerful, and easier with a developer on hand.
If your inbox is mostly the second group, start with an AI-first builder. If you also run campaigns, the two can live side by side: keep a flow tool on the channel where your campaigns run, and put an AI assistant on your website or WhatsApp, so two bots never answer the same conversation.
How we chose
We looked for builders a business owner can set up without writing code, that answer customers in chat, and that are widely used. For each, we read the pricing page and the help or developer docs on 13 October 2026 and noted how you build, where it answers and what is metered. Voiceflow doesn't publish prices on its site; we kept it because its builder fits the developer-assisted group.
We make ChatPal, so weigh our view of it accordingly. We tested ChatPal ourselves and did not test the others hands-on. The tools are grouped by the job they suit, not ranked.

- The Playground shows which source each answer used, and saved tests let you re-check answers after a change
- AI is included in every plan, with no add-on or credits per model

Prices are monthly billing unless noted, checked on 13 October 2026. Landbot shows its prices in euros; its FAQ says customers outside the EU are billed in dollars.
What 500 conversations a month cost
Each tool counts something different, so here is one business on one month: 500 customer conversations the AI should handle. Where a tool counts replies, we assumed 3 AI replies per conversation, so 1,500 replies. That is our assumption, not a measured average; count a week of your own chats and use your numbers.
- ChatPal: 1,500 replies fit the Standard plan, $50 a month. At 2 replies per conversation, 1,000 replies, still Standard.
- Chatbase: on a model that uses 1 credit a reply, 1,500 credits is Hobby's 700 plus one auto-recharge of 1,000 credits for $40, so $80. On a model that uses 2 credits, it is 3,000 credits: the $150 Standard plan with 4,000 is the simpler choice.
- Landbot: Starter includes 500 chats, 100 of them AI chats. The other 400 AI chats cost €0.10 each, so about €80 a month on monthly billing. Landbot's table counts chats per 24 hours, so a customer who comes back the next day may count again.
- ManyChat: it counts people, not conversations. 500 different people a month fit Pro's 2,500 contacts, $39 a month. AI replies are included in Pro.
- Botpress: Plus at $189 includes 250 conversations. The other 250 arrive as packs of 100 at $65, three of them, so $384 a month, plus AI usage if you pass the $25 included.
- Tidio: Lyro is sold in steps of AI conversations; the 500-conversation step is $350 a month billed monthly. Add a live chat plan if your team answers too.
- Voiceflow: prices are shown only inside its dashboard.
What happens when you hit the limit
The monthly price matters less than what happens on the busiest day of the month. Before you choose, decide which you'd rather have: an assistant that stops, or a bill that grows.
- ChatPal alerts the owner and admins by email or Telegram at 80% and 100% of the month's replies. At 100% the assistant stops replying until the month resets or you upgrade; your own replies from the inbox still go out.
- Chatbase shows visitors "This AI Agent is currently unavailable" at zero credits, unless auto-recharge buys 1,000 more for $40.
- Botpress never cuts you off. At 95% of your quota it adds a pack of 100 conversations and warns you at 75% and 100%; its FAQ says auto-recharge can't be switched off, and packs stay until you remove them in billing settings.
- Landbot alerts you at 80% and 90% of your included chats, then charges €0.05 for each extra chat and €0.10 for each extra AI chat.
- ManyChat keeps running and bills each active contact past your plan's allowance.
- Tidio's free Lyro allowance stops at 50 conversations and never resets; paid Lyro packages run from 50 to 1,000 conversations a month.
- Voiceflow can buy more credits automatically when you hit zero, if you switch on auto top-ups.
A growing bill keeps a busy shop answering; a hard stop is easier to budget. Either way, set the alert and look at your usage after the first two weeks.
What good looks like in any builder
Whichever tool you try, put it through the same test before you pay:
- Copy 20 real questions from last month's messages, word for word, including the awkward ones.
- Give the tool only what a customer could find out: your website, price list and policies.
- Ask the 20 questions. Count the wrong answers, the made-up ones and the ones that should have gone to a person.
- Check what it does when it doesn't know. A good assistant says so and offers a person; a bad one guesses.
- Change one fact, such as a price, and ask again. See how long the tool takes to pick it up.
ChatPal's version of that loop is the Playground: each answer shows which source it used, and Why this answer? explains a wrong one and suggests the fix. Our step-by-step guide to building an AI chatbot walks through it, and the guide to testing an AI chatbot shows how to build the 20-question set.
Which one to pick
- You run Instagram or TikTok campaigns: ManyChat; its Pro plan adds AI.
- You need lead forms and guided flows on your site or WhatsApp: Landbot.
- Customers ask questions on your site and in messaging apps: ChatPal, from free, with every channel on every plan.
- You want an AI agent on your website with many integrations: Chatbase.
- Your team already answers live chat and email: Tidio, adding Lyro for the repeat questions.
- You have a developer and need custom logic or voice: Botpress or Voiceflow.
If most of what you get is open questions, a free way to test is ChatPal's free plan: add your site and price list, paste in your 20 questions in the Playground, and count the misses before you connect any channel. The pricing page shows where each plan tops out.
