Zipchat alternatives: what else to use for AI chat on your store

Yevhen Kurapov, co-founder · Updated Oct 13, 2026

Zipchat charges per AI reply on every channel: free for 120 a month, then $80 a month for 750 or $300 for 3,000, billed monthly. ChatPal counts replies too: $20, $50 or $120 a month for 500, 1,500 or 4,000, but no email channel. Rep AI charges by site visitors. Shopify Inbox is free in your store's chat.

We make ChatPal, one of the tools below, and list its limits on the same terms as everyone else's.

Zipchat is an AI sales and support chat for online stores that charges per AI reply, on every channel. If email is a big part of your support, or you want the AI to issue discount codes and refunds, it's a strong fit. If you outgrow its Starter plan, need Telegram, or would rather move up in smaller price steps, the alternatives below are worth a look, and the table further down prices the same month at four volumes.

What Zipchat does

Zipchat connects to your Shopify store through the Admin API and indexes your products, collections, pages and policies, with no manual sync. From there:

  • One assistant, five channels. Website chat, email, WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger are on every plan, the free one included, answering from one knowledge base.
  • Orders. It finds a customer's order by email or phone, so they don't have to paste an order number. With connected skills, it can refund within your policy, cancel within your cancellation window, update a shipping address and look up stock across locations.
  • Selling. Proactive messages fire on cart value, exit intent or a stalled cart, and it can generate single-use discount codes on rules you set.
  • Platforms. Besides Shopify, it lists WooCommerce, BigCommerce and Wix, and connects to helpdesks such as Zendesk, Gorgias and Re:amaze.

It was rated 4.9 on the Shopify App Store when we checked in October 2026.

How Zipchat bills

Every reply counts. Zipchat bills AI replies: any response the AI sends, on any channel. Its pricing page estimates about 2.5 replies per conversation, so Starter's 750 replies are roughly 300 conversations a month.

How the plans step up. On the Shopify App Store, the free plan has 120 replies a month. Starter is $80 a month for 750, then Pro is $300 for 3,000 and Scale $600 for 6,000, billed monthly. Billed yearly, Starter works out to $64 a month and Pro to $240. Between Starter and Pro, extra replies come in packs of 250 for $49, about 20 cents a reply, and Zipchat's own FAQ says upgrading is usually cheaper than buying packs.

So a store that outgrows Starter's 750 replies pays either about $49 for each extra 250 or $220 more a month for Pro. The pricing page doesn't say what happens when replies run out beyond buying packs, so ask before you rely on it.

Telegram isn't listed. Zipchat's channels and pricing pages list website chat, email, WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger. For Telegram, ask Zipchat or use another tool.

When to stay on Zipchat

Stay if:

  • a lot of your support is email, and you want one AI answering email and chat;
  • you want the AI to issue discount codes, process refunds or cancel orders within your rules;
  • you run several stores on different platforms, such as Shopify and WooCommerce;
  • your volume sits comfortably inside one plan, so the gap to the next one doesn't matter to you.

How we chose

We read each tool's pricing page, Shopify App Store listing and product or help pages on October 13, 2026. We noted what each one meters, where it answers and what it may do with orders. We make ChatPal, so weigh what we say about it accordingly; we didn't test the other tools hands-on. The tools are grouped by how they charge and who they suit, not ranked.

Tidio

  • Checks order status once the customer signs in, and replies in the customer's language

Keep in mind

  • The AI agent works only in your online store's chat widget
  • Shows a notice that the chat is powered by Shopify and is AI, which can't be removed or customized

A helpdesk for a support team

Gorgias

The same month at four volumes

Zipchat and ChatPal count the same thing, each AI reply, so they compare directly. The conversation counts below use Zipchat's own estimate of 2.5 replies per conversation.

Monthly billing, US dollars, checked on October 13, 2026. Zipchat's yearly prices are lower: Starter $64 a month and Pro $240. Shopify Inbox answers only in your store's chat, so it covers none of the email or messaging-app replies.

The table leaves out the tools that meter something else. Rep AI depends on traffic: $104 a month for up to 10,000 visitors on the Shopify App Store, however many website chats; its AI on email and messaging apps is a separate add-on at $0.75 per resolved conversation. Tidio counts AI conversations, not replies, in steps from 50 to 1,000 a month: 50 cost $39 and 500 cost $350, billed monthly. Gorgias counts each AI interaction as a ticket, at $1.00 each on monthly plans plus the helpdesk plan.

Two things make the comparison less tidy than the table. Zipchat answers email; ChatPal doesn't, so a store that needs AI on email still needs something for it. And ChatPal counts replies to your own tests in the dashboard, so leave some room.

Order questions: how each tool checks who is asking

"Where is my order?" is one of the most common questions in a store's chat, and the tools handle it differently.

  • Zipchat matches the customer by email or phone, so nobody has to dig out an order number. Actions such as refunds run through skills you connect, and Zipchat says you approve each action and set thresholds for sensitive ones.
  • ChatPal asks the customer to sign in to your store first, then sees only that customer's orders: status, carrier and tracking link, estimated delivery and items. It never shows names, addresses, phone numbers, payment details or totals, and it never changes an order. On WhatsApp, Instagram and Telegram it sends a sign-in link. Your store needs Shopify's new customer accounts.
  • Shopify Inbox also checks order status only after the customer signs in.
  • Rep AI reads live order status from Shopify and asks for the order number and email, or a phone number or zip code, before answering.
  • Gorgias and Tidio can cancel, refund or edit orders, on actions and rules you switch on.

If you want the AI to fix an order on the spot, Zipchat, Rep AI, Tidio and Gorgias can. If you'd rather it only reports and passes changes to your team, ChatPal and Shopify Inbox work that way.

Zipchat or ChatPal

Zipchat is the pick when email matters, when you want the AI handing out discount codes and refunds, or when you sell on WooCommerce, BigCommerce or Wix too.

Choose ChatPal if:

  • your customers write on Telegram as well as your website, WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger, and you want one assistant answering all of them from your Shopify catalog;
  • you want smaller steps between plans, as in the table above, and a free plan of 100 replies;
  • you'd rather the AI read orders only after the customer signs in to your store, with every change left to your team.

On your storefront, ChatPal can add products to the cart and show what's already in it, with a Checkout button. In messaging apps it shows product cards instead.

Moving off Zipchat

  1. List what Zipchat does for you. Note your monthly replies and which skills you use: discount codes, refunds, cancellations, email answers. Anything ChatPal doesn't do becomes a request your team handles, and email needs its own tool.
  2. Connect your store in ChatPal. Go to Integrations, then Shopify, enter your store's Shopify address and click Connect Shopify. Shopify asks for read-only permissions. Setup reads your store's pages and drafts the welcome message and instructions for you to review.
  3. Test with real questions. Ask last month's most common questions in the Playground, including one about a product that just sold out, and compare with what Zipchat answered.
  4. Turn on Order support on the Shopify page in ChatPal if you want order answers. Your store needs Shopify's new customer accounts.
  5. Swap the chat. Turn off Zipchat's chat on your storefront so customers don't see two. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store, click Edit theme (or Customize), open App embeds, toggle on ChatPal Chat Widget and save. Connect WhatsApp and Instagram from their tiles under Integrations.
  6. Cancel Zipchat once you're happy. Its 30-day money-back guarantee covers only the first payment.

If you're also weighing traffic-priced tools, see Rep AI alternatives. If Shopify's own free chat might be enough, start with Shopify Inbox alternatives, which explains when it is. For more Shopify tools, read the best AI chatbots for Shopify stores.

Questions people ask

On the Shopify App Store, Zipchat has a free plan with 120 AI replies a month. Paid plans start at $80 a month for 750 replies, billed monthly, and yearly billing takes 20% off. Extra replies come in packs of 250 for $49.

Any response the AI sends to a customer, on the chat widget, email, WhatsApp or Instagram. Zipchat estimates about 2.5 replies per conversation, so Starter's 750 replies are roughly 300 conversations. ChatPal counts the same way: each reply its assistant writes is one message.

For chat and messaging apps, ChatPal is free for 100 replies a month, $20 a month for 500 and $50 for 1,500. Shopify Inbox is free but answers only in your store's chat. If you need email answered by AI too, Zipchat, Tidio and Gorgias cover it and ChatPal doesn't.

Zipchat covers website chat, email, WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger on every plan, the free one included. Its channels and pricing pages don't list Telegram. ChatPal answers on WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger and Telegram on every plan.

No. Zipchat lists Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce and Wix, and other sites through a script. ChatPal answers from Shopify and Horoshop catalogs; on any other site its chat widget answers from your pages and files.
