AI chatbots for Wix, Squarespace and Webflow: what works on each
Yevhen Kurapov, co-founder · Updated Oct 13, 2026
On Wix, the built-in Wix Smart Chat answers from your site's pages with no code. On Squarespace and Webflow you add a chat through custom code, which needs Squarespace Core or higher, or a paid Webflow plan. ChatPal, Tidio, Crisp and Chatbase install with one script; ChatPal also answers on WhatsApp and Instagram.
We make ChatPal, one of the tools below, and list its limits on the same terms as everyone else's.
The builder you're on decides more than the chatbot does. A Wix site can start with Wix's own AI chat and paste nothing at all. On Squarespace and Webflow, and on Wix when you want more than the built-in chat, you bring a tool and paste its script into the builder's custom code setting. What decides it is your plan: Squarespace allows it from Core up, Webflow on paid plans only, and Wix once the site has a connected domain.
Can your plan run a chat script?
Every third-party chatbot here installs the same way: you copy a few lines of code from the tool and paste them into your builder. Check this table before you sign up for anything.
| Builder | What you need | Where the code goes | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wix | A published site with a connected domain, which needs a Premium plan | Settings, then Custom Code under Development & integrations | Changing domain deletes your snippets |
| Squarespace | Core, Plus, Advanced or some legacy plans; not Basic | Code Injection panel, Footer field | Check the result on the live site in a private window |
| Webflow | An active Site plan, or a Core, Growth, Agency or Freelancer Workspace plan | Site settings, Custom code tab, Footer code | Goes live only after you publish |
If your plan doesn't allow custom code, you have two routes: Wix Smart Chat on Wix, or the tools listed as Squarespace Extensions on Squarespace.
How we chose
We looked for AI chatbots that a small business on one of these builders can set up without a developer, that publish their prices, and that answer from your own content. For each we read the pricing page and the install guide for each builder on October 13, 2026. For the builders, we followed their own help centers.
We make ChatPal, so weigh that. We tested ChatPal ourselves and did not test the others hands-on. SiteGPT is a good option too; we left it out here because its pricing FAQ says there is no free plan, and its install docs cover these builders in a short note each.
The tools are grouped by the situation they suit, not ranked.

Built into Wix
Wix Smart Chat
Price: Free to install; a free allowance of AI conversations, with larger quotas on upgraded plans
Good at
- Its AI learns from your site's content and the training rules you add, and you choose which pages it may use
- Live chat and AI in one app, managed from your Wix Inbox, with no code to paste
- Can also answer incoming WhatsApp Business messages, from the same AI credits
Keep in mind
- Installing from the App Market gives a free trial of 50 AI conversations; after that Wix asks you to upgrade your plan
- Only for Wix sites
One script on any builder
ChatPal
Price: Free for 100 replies a month; $20 for 500, $50 for 1,500 and $120 for 4,000, billed monthly
Good at
- Learns from pages it crawls on your site and from files you upload; the Playground shows what each answer used
- The same assistant answers on your website, WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger and Telegram, all on the free plan
- Hands a chat to your team when needed, and your reply goes out in the same chat
Keep in mind
- No product catalog sync for Wix Stores, Squarespace Commerce or Webflow Ecommerce: product answers come from your pages and files
- One assistant on the free plan, and replies to your own tests and to Copilot count toward the 100
Live chat with AI added
Tidio
Price: Free plan; Starter from $24.17 a month billed yearly; Lyro AI from $32.50 a month billed yearly for 50 conversations
Good at
- Install articles for Wix and Squarespace; on Webflow you paste its script
- The free plan includes live chat and one inbox for chat, Messenger, Instagram and email
Keep in mind
- The free plan's 50 Lyro AI conversations are a lifetime allowance, not a monthly one
- AI is an add-on priced per conversation, separate from the live chat plan
Crisp
Price: Free plan without AI; Mini $45 and Essentials $95 a month per workspace
Good at
- Step-by-step install guides for Wix, Squarespace and Webflow
- Priced per workspace, not per seat: Mini covers 4 agents
Keep in mind
- No AI on the free plan; Mini includes $5 of AI credits, about 90 automated conversations
- When the credits run out, the AI stops and new chats go to your team, unless you turn on pay-as-you-go
An AI agent trained on your site
Chatbase
Price: No free plan on the pricing page; Hobby $40 a month for 700 message credits, billed monthly; 7-day trial
Good at
- Trains on files, text, websites, Q&A pairs and Notion pages
- Install guides for Wix and Webflow
Keep in mind
- Its Webflow guide embeds the agent in a page as an iframe; a floating bubble means pasting its general script instead
- Websites re-sync automatically only on Standard ($150 a month billed monthly) and Pro
A support team with a help center
Fin
Price: $0.99 per outcome, plus Intercom seats from $19 a month billed yearly ($29 billed monthly); 14-day trial
Good at
- Official guide for installing the Messenger on Squarespace through code injection
- Answers from help articles, PDFs, public web pages it re-syncs weekly, and Notion, Zendesk or Confluence content
Keep in mind
- An Intercom support engineer said in 2024 that Wix isn't officially supported
- Intercom's Squarespace guide says it can't run on the checkout page and lists every visitor as a lead, because of Squarespace's limits
Which tool works on which builder
| Tool | Wix | Squarespace | Webflow |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wix Smart Chat | Built in, from the App Market | No | No |
| ChatPal | Script in Custom Code | Script in Code Injection | Script in Footer code |
| Tidio | Install article | Install article | Script in Footer code |
| Crisp | Install guide | Install guide | Install guide |
| Chatbase | Install guide | Script, no dedicated guide | Iframe guide, or script in Footer code |
| Fin | Not officially supported, per Intercom support in 2024 | Install guide | Script in Footer code |
"Script" means the builder takes it like any other code snippet. An install guide only spares you working out which box to paste into.
Adding a chat script on each builder
In ChatPal you get the code in Integrations, Chat Widget: set the title, colours and position, click Save, then open the Embed code tab and copy the Installation script. It is two short <script> tags. You paste it once: later changes to the chat window in ChatPal reach your site within a few minutes. Other tools give you a similar snippet from their own settings.
Wix
- Make sure the site is published and has a connected domain.
- In your site's dashboard, open Settings and choose Custom Code under Development & integrations.
- Click + Add Custom Code, paste the code and give it a name you'll recognise.
- Under Add Code to Pages, choose All pages.
- Under Place Code in, choose Body - end, then click Apply.
Wix warns that some snippets that used to work may be blocked by newer security measures until the provider updates them, and that it doesn't give support for third-party code. If the chat doesn't show on the live site, the tool's own support is the place to ask.
Squarespace
- Check that your plan is Core or higher.
- Open the Code Injection panel.
- Paste the code into the Footer field, which Squarespace adds before the closing
</body>tag on every page, and save. - Open the live site in a private browser window to see it. The chat may not show inside the editor.
Webflow
- Check that the site has a paid Site plan, or sits in a paid Workspace.
- Open Site settings and the Custom code tab.
- Paste the code into Footer code and click Save changes.
- Publish the site. Custom code shows in preview, but it isn't live until you publish.
Then teach the assistant your pages. In ChatPal, open Configuration, then your assistant, and on the Links tab click Add Link and paste your site's address. Leave Single page only unticked to crawl the pages under it, up to your plan's limit. Add a price list or policy document on the Files tab with Upload files. When you later change a page, click Reindex on its link.
Built-in or third-party?
Wix Smart Chat is the easy start on Wix. It sits in your Inbox with your other Wix messages, learns from your pages, lets you exclude pages from its answers, and can also reply to WhatsApp Business messages. Manual live chat in it is free. AI conversations come from a quota: a free allowance, then larger quotas on upgraded plans. It replaced Wix Chat, which Wix no longer offers for new installs and which has no AI.
Pick a third-party tool on Wix when you want the same assistant on Instagram, Telegram or Messenger too (Wix's help center says Smart Chat's AI replies outside your site currently cover WhatsApp Business only), or when you'd like to move to another builder later without starting again.
Squarespace offers chat through third-party tools, either from its Extensions panel or by code injection. Squarespace notes that extensions are built and managed by third parties and fall outside its support.
Webflow gives you custom code and the Embed element, and you bring the chat tool.
Online stores on these builders
If you sell through Wix Stores, Squarespace Commerce or Webflow Ecommerce, be clear about what a chatbot can see. None of the third-party tools here mentions a catalog sync for these builders in its install guides. They read your product pages like any other page.
That works for questions a product page answers: what it's made of, which size to choose, how long delivery takes. It doesn't work for live stock or prices, since the assistant knows what a page said when it last read it. In ChatPal, put that in Instructions: tell it to send shoppers to the product page for the current price and stock. ChatPal answers from a synced catalog only for Shopify and Horoshop stores, and adds products to the cart only on Shopify.
What it costs on top of your builder
At an assumed 100 chats a month with three AI replies each, so about 300 replies, on monthly billing:
- Wix Smart Chat: a free allowance of AI conversations, then a larger quota with an upgraded Wix plan; Wix's help pages don't list a separate price.
- ChatPal: 300 replies fit the $20 a month plan (500 replies). About 30 chats a month fit the free plan's 100 replies.
- Chatbase: Hobby, $40 a month for 700 message credits.
- Crisp: 100 AI conversations are slightly more than Mini's roughly 90, so Mini at $45 plus pay-as-you-go, or Essentials at $95.
- Tidio: Lyro is $39 a month for 50 AI conversations; 100 need the $75 tier.
- Fin: if 70 chats count as outcomes, about $69 plus a $29 seat.
Prices are in US dollars, on top of the builder plan you need for custom code.
Picking by situation
You're on Wix and want answers only on your website. Try Wix Smart Chat first. It costs nothing to install and needs no code.
Customers also write on Instagram, WhatsApp or Telegram. ChatPal answers on all of them on every plan, from the same pages and files, and works the same on any builder.
A small team shares the chat. Crisp and Tidio are live chat tools first, with AI in front; Crisp's price covers a workspace, not each seat.
You want answers from a lot of written material. Chatbase trains on files, Q&A pairs and Notion pages as well as your site.
You have a support team and a help center. Fin, on Squarespace or Webflow.
If ChatPal fits, the order that wastes the least time is: create the assistant on the free plan, add your pages on the Links tab, ask it your ten most common questions in the Playground, and only then paste the script into your builder. The website chatbot page shows the chat window you'd be adding.
